The 75,000 square foot facility houses researchers from both institutions. The first floor includes a 100-person tiered classroom. The second floor houses research labs for UF and the third and fourth floors combine FAU science labs with office space for FAU's College of Arts and Letters and other departments.
The $30 million facility has LEED Silver Certification. Some highlights of the facility include low-flow fixtures and indigenous landscaping that will require little or no irrigation and incorporates highly efficient HVAC systems. The utilization of low-emitting materials reduced the quantity of indoor air contaminants during construction. Seventy-five percent of all occupied spaces utilize natural lighting, and twenty percent of the construction material cost consisted of recycled material, with 20 percent of all building materials recovered or manufactured locally.
MEP Structural was responsible for Code Review of all construction related documents, permit issuance recommendation, inspections in Structural, Building, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing disciplines.
